Full Members over the age of 17 may hire club dinghies we have 1 RS Feva, 3 RS Quests, 2 Scows (one with a jib) and 7 Picos for hire at £10 per session (£50 per week) per boat, and for younger members 6 RS Teras and 11 training Oppies at £5 per session (£25 per week) per boat. Bookings for younger members must be made through a responsible adult who also accepts responsibility for confirming that the cadet/junior is competent and supervising them as appropriate The responsible adult shall also be liable for any loss of equipment or damage to the dinghy. Use of the hired dinghies is restricted to the Yar estuary (upstream of the harbour). If required to take a club owned dinghy into the Solent this can only happen at a club organised event where safety boat cover is provided. ALSO if taken into the Solent the the Chief Race Officer or Duty Officer must be informed and agreement from them must be obtained before taking part in the event. See Duty Roster to find the name of the relevant Chief Race Officer or Duty Officer per event.

Our rowing boats - 2 small tenders can be borrowed free of charge.

During 2023 club dinghies can be hired free of charge by children racing or training at YSC.

Members may purchase a "Season Ticket" for £150 which will entitle them to hire any of the Club dinghies (except the Quests) as many times as they like during the sailing season (March to December). Under this scheme they may not book any boat more than two weeks in advance. Members should contact Tom Gregory (tomgregory1@gmail.com) to arrange this.

The cost of hiring a Club boat for use in a YSC training session is half the normal price.

Policy on Hire of Club Boats

YSC maintains the hire fleet, but can only do this effectively if they are made aware of any damage or missing equipment. It is the hirer's responsibility to inform the club of any damage caused during a hire or missing equipment that needs to be rectified. The hirer would not be held liable for any damage due to normal 'wear and tear', but if damage was due to negligence this may not be covered by the club's insurance; under such circumstances the member would be liable for the repair costs. On an occasional basis the Club checks the boats, but it is always the responsibility of the hirer to check that each time they use a Club boat it is in seaworthy condition and is returned to the boat park in similar condition. It is also the responsibility of the member hiring a boat to decide whether they have the necessary skills to sail in the conditions prevailing at the time of the hire and forecast for the duration of the hire. When dinghies are hired for cadets/juniors it is the responsibility of their responsible adult to discharge their duties of care.

If the hirer has not arrived 30 minutes before the start of the event and has not let someone know they are delayed, then the boat is deemed unbooked and can be taken out by any other member who is wanting to sail.

If a hirer has not cancelled a booking 1 hour before the start time of the event, then they will have to pay the hire charge for that booking whether or not they use the boat.

A member wishing to hire a boat to sail at a site other than YSC must make their intentions known to the Commodore (commodore@yarmouthsc.org) and arrange to have the boat checked back in to the YSC boat park at the end of the hire.

If a fault is noted with any of the Club boats, the member identifying that fault must inform the Bosun in person, by email tomgregory1@gmail.com or by leaving a written note on the whiteboard in the Club.

Club boats are not available for temporary members to hire. Recognised RYA-affiliated organisations may be able to arrange to hire YSC Club boats for their members to sail on the River Yar by initially contacting the Commodore who will determine availability of boats and terms of hire.

Wherever possible the Club will make an insurance claim for any loss or damage to the club boats. The Hirer will be responsible for the cost of repair/replacement or the excess specified in the Club Schedule of Insurance.
