The Shoresiders Visit to Farringford House and Gardens - Thursday 7th August

On Thursday 7th August 18 Shoresiders visited Farringford House and gardens. Unfortunately, 2 Shoresiders missed out due to last minute unexpected events on what proved to be a really interesting visit.
Although the sun didn't shine, we found a secluded area in the garden for our picnic lunch and afterwards we wandered through the beautifully kept walled gardens, marvelling that there wasn't a weed in sight!
We were welcomed into the house by none other than YSC's Alex Hall, who is one of the guides! She briefed us on how to use the headsets, which gave comprehensive descriptions of each room we visited, so we could go at our own pace. As we went around, we could almost feel the presence of Tennyson himself especially in the library, where his pipes lay in a small brass bowl and an early recording of his voice reciting 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' was played to us.
Some of us didn't have time to visit the Restoration Exhibition but those who managed it said it was very interesting so that is an excuse to go again!!
The Next Shoresiders 'Get Together' is Monday 8th September from 10.00am 12noon. Details will be sent nearer the time. All members welcome!
