Nearly 70 members, including 26 children took part in the YSC Swallows and Amazons weekend at Newtown this year, which had been delayed because of Covid-19. The sail up to Newtown on Saturday turned into a 'tow up', as despite the forecast promising a moderate breeze, there was hardly any! Once inside the Newtown river, a breeze set in allowing some to sail to explore the creek. The campsite was set up, games including the now compulsory 'tug-of-war', 'capture the flag' and exploring an out of date liferaft, filled the afternoon, before the evening BBQ. Sunday saw a good breeze, and the sun came out too, which created perfect conditions for the sail back to Yarmouth. Once again this proved a really enjoyable event and it was rewarding to see how well some of the children coped with sailing in the Solent.
