Pre-Sailing Skills at West Wight Sports and Community Centre during Half-Term

An introduction to sailing for children in a warm, safe environment. Led by RYA qualified dinghy instructors. 2.1/2 hour session both dryside and in the pool. Cost £27 per session. Booking essential by ringing 01983 752168. Sessions: Thursday 21st and Thursday 28th October. Start time 12 noon in the Sports hall and finish in the pool at 2.30pm.
This is open for any child 7 -12 years who would like to gain some skills and give sailing a go. Introduces sailing skills and terms to children using games and fun activities. Children must be water confident but will have a buoyancy aid on throughout the water session. Children must wear suitable footwear/clothes that they can run in at the start in the Sports hall. They should also bring a short wet suit or t-shirt and shorts on top of swimmers to change into plus buoyancy aid if they have one.
The dry session includes sailing related games, rigging, clothing advice, knots made easy and basic boat parts. The wet session includes swimming in a buoyancy aid, dealing with a capsize, balance, bailing, paddling and how to safely be rescued. The popular finish is steering the boat in a race down the pool.
