Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at YSC

What a wonderful set of events the Club put on to celebrate the jubilee of our Queen. The long weekend started with the Gala Ball on the Thursday. All 70 tickets had been snapped up. The Ball was opened by special guest, the IOW High Sheriff Kay Marriott. Following the dinner there was the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon on the green next to YSC which the majority of Ball attendees went to watch. Dancing to the Jim Thorn Jazz Band rounded off the evening.
On Friday, the Old Gaffers took over the Club for its annual Yarmouth knees up. The Club events planned for Saturday were postponed to the Sunday, due to strong winds. Sunday started with a tea, coffee & cake morning/afternoon. Members were encouraged to bring their own picnic for midday if they were not being fed by Gerald and his amazingly tasty Coronation chicken lunch. Next up was the attempt to get 70 dinghies on the water as part of the Platinum Celebrations. Did we get 70? Not quite, we managed 38 but even with that number the river looked spectacular with all these boats sailing up and down outside the Club. Hopefully this event will have inspired some of our occasional dinghy sailors to take to the river more often. The evening rounded off with a BBQ. Luckily the late afternoon heavy rain stopped just as the BBQ team were needed.
Please see the Gallery section on the Club website for pictures of the Jubilee celebrations. The Gala Ball photos are available from Denise Cronin. If you would like quality copies please email me and I will put you in contact.
Thank you to all the volunteers that made the long weekend so special. You should feel proud that your efforts contributed towards a fitting tribute to our monarch
