March 2021 Newsletter from the Acting Commodore

As I write this the country is gradually coming out of lockdown and over the next few months the Club will come back to life. On Monday 29th March the first of this season's work parties will start and then on Thursday 1st April, Club organised sailing commences with an All Comers Shakedown Race starting at 1330hrs. It would be good to see as many boats on the water as possible; so please come along and sail, even if you don't want to join in with the racing.
During April the allocation of Safety Boat Crews will be controlled by myself. The booking of Club Dinghies during April can be made by emailing me on email@example.com, Dinghies can only be booked seven days in advance. Junior members using Club Dinghies for organised training will have complimentary use of the boats.
It is encouraging that during the winter months quite a lot of new members joined the Club. As soon as all legal limits are removed on social contact, hopefully towards the end of June, there will be a social evening in the Clubhouse, to welcome the new members.
Due to the Covid restrictions still in force, the Yarmouth Carnival Committee has decided to cancel the Easter Duck Race which is normally hosted by the Club. For the same reason it is with regret that the Flag Officers have made the decision to cancel the Open Day on Saturday May 1st and also the Open Evening on Friday 4th June. However in line with Government guidelines, the social side of the Club will start with the Friday night bar on the 16th April and the Saturday lunchtime bar on the 17th April. (John Peters, Rear Commodore House and myself will be trialling the Saturday Lunchtime Bar for 6 or 7 weeks, to ascertain how much interest there is in a Saturday Bar). Both bar sessions will be held on the Terrace, with table service only and subject to the weather. The Sunday lunchtime bar will commence on the 23rd May, this will be on the Terrace and also with a limited number in the Clubhouse.
On Saturday 20th March I will be chairing the Yarmouth Sailing Club 52nd AGM, with the election of new Club Officers. I look forward to welcoming Martin Palmer as the new Commodore and John Peters as the new Rear Commodore House.
With the possibility that all Covid restrictions may come to an end on the 21st June 2021, a full sailing and social programme as outlined in the Events Programme 2021 is on the horizon at last.
Let us all hope for a fantastic season with sunshine, moderate winds and exciting sailing and social activities.
